Luminate’s policy on generative AI

When the whole idea of generative AI first burst on the scene, the Squidwards of the world (yes, we know, we just brought a SpongeBob reference into this blog) pretty much thought it was the end of the world as we know it. With everyone, whether writers or not, choosing a side of the debate, it quickly grew to be the hottest topic out there. But as time passed, it became clear that AI is a tool to help writers (and non-writers!) rather than a way to replace their abilities entirely.

At Luminate, we believe that AI has many benefits when used responsibly. But, using it requires a human-centred approach. In other words, while we don’t believe it can replace human skill or quality, it can enhance human abilities, create opportunities, and improve efficiency.

As a company that works to tell your story and inspire your audience, we created a policy signed by all members of our team of dedicated writers to be transparent about the resources we use and when we use them. When you hire Luminate, you hire us for our skills, and the final product you receive is the result of our hard work and dedication.

Currently, we use AI to help us transcribe audio or video recordings, create summaries or outlines, brainstorm new ideas, enhance images, and analyze data. So basically, we use it to help us work faster, and more efficiently to ensure that our time is well spent and that we always create quality work for our clients.

While using AI has many benefits, it also has some drawbacks. And there are certain uses of AI that we outright do not do. These include, inputting personal or confidential information into AI software, using information generated without fact checking, and letting AI produce our work. Although AI has evolved a ton over the past few years, it’s imperative that we use it ethically and as an addition to our work rather than as the sole creator.

With transparency in mind, the following points have always been our promise when delivering the content you need to better connect with your audience. The rise of AI simply acts as a reminder to reiterate them within its context.

Quality. While AI is there to assist our team, we are committed to providing the highest quality of work. With that said, AI may assist us in the early stages of writing but we guarantee that using it will not negatively impact the final product nor will any work solely be created using it.

Integrity. We respect your privacy and treat the confidential information you share with us as such. We are, therefore, extremely mindful of the information we input into AI programs to protect that privacy and confidentiality.

Transparency. We are committed to an honest relationship with our clients and being open about when, where, and how we use AI so you know exactly how your work is created.

Efficiency. As we strive to meet every deadline, our team may use AI tools from time to time to enhance work and efforts, ensuring that everyone makes the best use of their time and skills.

As AI evolves, so will our policy. But, we are committed to the idea that using it will always require a human-centred approach. So, while it makes our work more efficient, it will never replace us entirely.
